The latest in the range of graphics cards
Radeon RX is significantly back on the PCI Express interface side.

While we have just learned what price will be considered – and probably not at all respected – for the release of the Radeon RX 6500 XT in France, Videocardz relay some additional information.

Interface limited to four PCIe 4.0 lanes

Taking details given by ASRock, but completely absent from AMD, Asus, Gigabyte or MSI sites, our colleagues indicate that the Radeon RX 6500 XT uses an interface limited to four PCI Express 4.0 lanes. A notable decline compared to the other Radeon RX 6000, but also compared to the Radeon RX 5500 which was in x8.

As explained Videocardz, this limitation to PCIe 4.0 x4 will of course affect the bandwidth of the graphics card. It would be set at 8 Gb / s, which is the same as what can be found on a PCIe 3.0 x8 card or a PCIe 2.0 x16 card. Our colleagues take the opportunity to discuss other features that are missing.

Indeed, the Navi 24 GPU which equips the Radeon RX 6500 XT does not have the hardware encoding of H264 / HEVC or AV1 decoding. These are not necessarily very annoying points, as is the PCIe 4.0 x4 limitation: remember that the card is not designed for video games in addition to 1080p.
