Julia von Heinz sends her film "And tomorrow the whole world" into the running as a German Oscar candidate.
There were a total of ten films to choose from: But Julia von Heinz (44, "I'll be gone") made it with her anti-fascist drama "And tomorrow the whole world": She is supposed to compete for the Oscar for Germany. This was announced by German Films, the foreign representation of German film, in a statement on Wednesday (October 28). The film should make it into the "Best Non-English Language Film" category, which is now called "International Feature Film".
Mala Emde (24) plays the student Luisa in the film, who, in addition to studying law, is becoming increasingly involved in left-wing and antifastic circles. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival. "We are the German Oscar submission! I can't believe it," Emde wrote on Instagram after the decision.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will now select five films from all international applications. Nora Fingscheidt (37) failed with her drama "Systemsprenger" last year on the hurdle. Who will be nominated this year will be announced on February 5, 2021. The Oscars will then take place on April 25, 2021.
