Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus: the floating speaker gets ready for the beach

Soundcore offers a new version of its portable Bluetooth speaker, still water resistant, but now capable of theoretically resisting sand.

In its range, Anker Soundcore offers a waterproof Bluetooth speaker, the Motion Boom offered at €109.99. Despite its relatively large size, this enclosure has the particularity of floating to facilitate its recovery in the event of a fall in the water.

With the Motion Boom Plus (which should be sold at €179.99 according to all logic), the manufacturer pushes the concept a little further by adding IP 67 certification. The 7 indicates the water resistance, i.e. the capacity survive immersion in water for 30 minutes. 6 is the maximum degree of dust resistance. In theory, the speaker should therefore be able to withstand sand, although some manufacturers such as Sony recommend avoiding sand despite an IP 6 X rating.

A powerful speaker

The Motion Boom Plus is equipped with 2 x 3.5-inch woofers (bass optimized speakers) with a combined power of 60 W as well as a set of tweeters (for treble) of 20 W. The total power offered is therefore 80 W, which is much higher than the 30 W of the basic model.

Motion Boom Plus is compatible with Soundcore’s PartyCast, which allows up to 100 speakers to be paired together, providing this functionality for users looking to party on a larger scale.

On the autonomy side, the Plus version announces 20 hours (compared to 24 hours for the standard version) despite the increase in battery size to 13,400 mAh. This should nevertheless be sufficient for a day at the beach, or even a weekend in more moderate use. Note that despite this good size battery, the Motion Boom Plus cannot be used as a backup battery for your other devices.

The speaker will be available from May 30, 2022 on Amazon, soundcore.com and partner retailers.
