Announced in June 2021, this feature allows you to move your mouse cursor from a Mac to an iPad, all wirelessly and seamlessly.
It was one of the major new features presented when macOS Monterey was announced last June, but it took almost a year to get our hands on it.
iPad and Mac work together with one mouse
Universal Control has been removed from the first versions of the Californian manufacturer’s operating systems and is making a comeback in the betas of iPadOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3, available since Thursday January 27 for developers.
This feature will allow Mac and iPad users to switch between screens without interrupting their work. All they have to do, for example, is point the mouse or the trackpad of their MacBook or their iMac to the right or the left, depending on which side the tablet is on, wait a few moments, and automatically, the cursor will be available on the ‘iPad. It is also possible to pass files from one device to another, all without any wires.
The feature also works with a second Mac positioned on the same desk, for a total of three devices simultaneously, so that all available screens can be used more intuitively.
macOS Monterey 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4 have just begun their beta cycle and aren’t expected to be publicly available until Spring 2022.
