Series Workshop been running its course since 1997 and still captivated its fans with Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream last year, and will continue with Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key next month (available for pre-order from €59.99 on Amazon.co.uk). The franchise which has just celebrated its 25th anniversary will also mark the occasion with an original project, a remake of its very first episode confirmed during the last Nintendo Direct.
The game is called Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg and has just been further unveiled by taste And Koei-Tecmo this week. It will feature modernized graphics, bringing to life 3D characters and settings that are cuter and more lively than ever. The experience will also evolve in substance, with more fluid and comfortable controls and navigation, additional social events and possibilities for interaction, and a Unlimited Mode to live the adventure without being rushed by the time that passes until the end of the 5 years of study.
At the Royal Academy of Magic (or Academy for short), Marie fails in her attempts to study alchemy. One day, she receives a workshop from her teacher as part of a special graduation exam. To graduate, Mary must fashion an object that will impress her teacher.
But first, Marie must strive to improve her alchemy skills, collect ingredients and earn money to hire adventurers and buy recipes and utensils… Add it all to the wrap up, to the battles and quests she has to take on, and it’s clear she has a lot to do before she’s ready for her exam!
Where to start is up to you! Work hard to graduate from the Academy, but be sure to have fun along the way.
Features of the remake
- Updated graphics! Marie and her friends have come to life with the latest technology!
Character designs and event artwork have been revamped, and 2D animations have also been introduced in the remake. Additionally, there are now 3D character and level models, so players can see cute mini-characters as they move around the map and explore.
- The origins of the Atelier series, adapted for modern times and made more playable!
While maintaining the simplicity and flexibility of the original release, the in-game tutorial and menu navigation have been expanded and improved. The mechanics of moving around the city and collecting items on the ground have also been changed to meet modern demands, ensuring that the remake is even more comfortable and easier to play.
- New items added to further enhance the gaming experience!
Fans of the original version of the game, as well as newcomers to the Atelier series, will be delighted by the variety of new elements that have been added to the remake. With the new Unlimited Mode, which allows you to play at a more relaxed pace, and the addition of new events that allow interaction with more characters, you can enjoy the world of Atelier Marie even more.
Its release date is already set for July 13, 2023 on Switch, PS5, PS4 and PC via Windows and Steam, currently digital only.
