We owe a lot to Astrid Lindgren – with her timeless children’s book classics, she also provides a lot of inspiration for beautiful children’s names.

There are few authors who have influenced the world as much as Astrid Lindgren. Okay, Tolstoy had “War and Peace” and yes, that’s nice – but did he know what a “spunk” was? Just. For generations, pretty much every child in Germany has made the acquaintance of an Astrid Lindgren story at some point, be it as a reading book, as a first attempt at reading it or through one of the many film adaptations of her works. Her worlds are so strong in our consciousness that even as adults we still use terms like “Bullerbü” -idyll, or buy shirts that say “Be Pippi, not Annika” (unfair accusation, by the way, Annika is not the joke she is considered to be, but I digress). Therefore it is actually obvious to find inspiration in Astrid Lindgren’s search for a beautiful first name – after all, many, many characters with timeless and sonorous names appear in her books.

Sweden idyll that always fits

In fact, Scandinavian first names have generally been in trend with us for a long time. This is of course partly due to our connection to the stories of Astrid Lindgren, but also has to do with the boom in Swedish crime novels, which the bookstores have taken over within a very short time. Of course, the question quickly arises whether you really want to have the association with the victims and serial killers of dark, Nordic thrillers – names like “Lisbeth” or “Mikael” are of course still beautiful. So don’t be shy: literature is always a great source of inspiration for beautiful names, and the Swedes are often the very first choice in this regard (sorry, Harry Potter fans, but “Dudley” will simply never catch on like “Madita”) And of course: Of course it’s a nice bonus if you can one day read to your little “Kalle” what a great detective his namesake is.
