Be careful, the save system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is stupid

Several people have lost hours and hours of gameplay in Dragon’s Dogma 2due to an opaque backup system which can prove to be a trap.

No, the save system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is catastrophic, I lost +2 hours of gameplay even though I had just saved on purpose », testifies Mister PXL in a tweet published on March 24. Like so many other gamers, he was trapped by the way saves work in Capcom’s demanding RPG.

First point to know: you can only have one game in Dragon’s Dogma 2, meaning that you always play the same character (which you can personalize down to the smallest detail). However, this restriction is offset by the freedom to change classes at any time. This is even encouraged since certain quests are simpler with this or that style of play (example: an archer if the enemies are mainly aerial).

What’s Wrong with Dragon’s Dogma 2 Saves?

When we die in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (or restart your game from the main menu), two options are available to us: “Load the last save” or “Load from the last save point”. The nuance is subtle, but is important. Above all, if we don’t have it in mind, we can make a mistake that could cost us hours and hours of play.

Here is what each option corresponds to :

  • “Load last save”: literally the last save that was made in the game, whether manual (through the menus) or automatic (when a circle appears at the top right).
  • “Load from last save point”: You might think that the last save point was a manual save on the part of the player. Not at all: it corresponds to the last time we slept in our house or in an inn. If you haven’t done this in a long time, this is where you can get trapped. Because loading “the last save point” will become the new “last save” and erase everything you have accomplished since.

Please note that the English version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is much clearer: “Load from last save point” translates to “Load from Last Inn Rest”. Be careful, sleeping at a campfire doesn’t count: it just serves to recover your entire life bar.

The problem with this system? We have no control over backups. And if the game decides to save automatically at a critical moment (example: when you are overwhelmed by enemies), then you will be tempted to use “the save point”, at the risk of losing your progress. “ Having a single option that mixes auto and manual remains a bit risky because if the game auto-saves in a situation that blocks the player, only the last night at the inn save option remains, so you have to prepare your trips well », rightly indicates the internet user Wanderer in a tweet published on March 24. Our advice: sleep at the inn very often, if possible before each quest to avoid disappointments.
