Before Committee of Inquiry: Trump’s son-in-law Kushner testifies about storming the Capitol

Trump’s son-in-law Kushner testifies on Capitol storm

The exact circumstances of the storming of the Capitol in Washington are unclear. A committee of inquiry is to bring light into the darkness. Kushner, son-in-law of ex-US President Trump, is now the first family member to testify. At the time of the storming, however, he was not in the country.

The son-in-law and former adviser to ex-US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, testified before the parliamentary inquiry into the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The husband of Trump’s daughter Ivanka was interviewed by MPs via video link on Thursday, US media reported. The 41-year-old is the first member of the Trump family and the key former Trump adviser to speak to the panel.

Kushner consented to the questioning. He was not in Washington during the Capitol storm, but was returning from a visit to Saudi Arabia. His wife Ivanka, on the other hand, was with her father at the White House on January 6th.

Most recently, Kushner’s name appeared in a leaked message from right-wing political activist Ginni Thomas to Trump’s then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on November 13, 2020. In it, Thomas – the wife of the conservative constitutional judge Clarence Thomas – speaks ten days after the presidential election of alleged fraud in the election and explains that she had sent “Jared” an e-mail to this effect.

Trump is still talking about voter fraud

Radical Trump supporters stormed the Capitol when the victory of Trump’s challenger Joe Biden in the November 3, 2020 presidential election was to be certified there. The right-wing populist then US President, who still does not recognize his electoral defeat against Biden and speaks of alleged massive election fraud, had previously called on his supporters in an incendiary speech to march to the Capitol and fight “whatever the hell”.

The storming of the Capitol with five dead caused horror around the world and is considered a black day in the history of US democracy. The parliamentary committee of inquiry wants to uncover the role of Trump and his environment in the Capitol storming. MPs also want to question Ivanka Trump.

Time is of the essence: Biden’s Democrats could lose their majority in the House of Representatives to Trump’s Republicans in the midterm congressional elections in November. These could then handle the U-committee.
