Goretzka advisor Neubauer is dead

He was one of the pullers in German football, brought Metzelder to Madrid and brought Raul to Schalke. Until recently he looked after national players Leon Goretzka and Kevin Trapp. Jörg Neubauer has now died of a brain tumor.

The well-known player agent Jörg Neubauer died at the age of 59. After a serious illness, the law graduate died in his finca on Palma de Mallorca in the presence of his wife and close family circle. The family confirmed this in a statement.

One and a half years ago Neubauer was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Until recently, he and his wife Kristin looked after national soccer player Leon Goretzka from FC Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. As the first and last press spokesman for the GDR Football Association, Neubauer started a career as a consultant after the fall of the Wall due to the transfers of GDR national players like Andreas Thom to Bayer Leverkusen.

As such, he shaped the football world for several decades. In doing so, he rose to become one of the most established player consultants in Germany. He had a hand in transfers like that of Sebastian Deisler from Hertha BSC to Bayern Munich or Christoph Metzelder from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid. He also managed to switch to Los Blancos in the Spanish capital for his long-standing client Sami Khedira.

From there to Germany, he threaded a real transfer coup: When superstar Raul switched from Royal to FC Schalke 04, he is also said to have acted as an initiator and even had a decisive influence. Neubauer also ran for a place on the Presidium of Hertha BSC in 2016. He had developed a particularly emotional relationship with the capital city club since the late 1990s. But his candidacy failed.
