Actor Bill Cosby speaks out for the first time after his release from prison: “I have always protested my innocence.”

US actor Bill Cosby, 83, was released from prison on Wednesday, June 30th, after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction based on an agreement between the former actor and a prosecutor in 2005. Following his release, Cosby reports from home via Twitter to speak.

“I have never changed my attitude or my history. I have always protested my innocence,” wrote Cosby. He added, “Thanks to all of my fans, supporters, and friends who stood by me during this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law.”

He was sentenced to ten years in prison

Bill Cosby was serving almost three years of a ten-year prison sentence after Andrea Constand, 48, testified in a criminal case that she was drugged and sexually abused by the actor.

The testimony of Constand and five other women led the jury to convict Cosby of triple serious sexual assault in 2018. Cosby’s defense denied the allegations, as did similar allegations against him by more than 60 other women outside the courtroom.
