2021 was a year full of new and old fashion trends. The 2000s were brought back in all sorts of variations and plenty of new things were tried out. A year full of fashion surprises. We explain here which textile sins we should banish from the New Year.

While we are preparing our wardrobes for 2022, it can be difficult to keep track of things. Which it-pieces are still popular and what is no longer being talked about? Which trend is worth keeping wearing it in the New Year? Because just as we can no longer expect the next trends in the fashion pipeline, we are just as happy to leave some trends behind us.

In line with the current Y2K trends, big clunkers conquered social media in 2021. But it wasn’t about diamond clunkers, rather neon-colored plastic rings adorned our fingers. These bags are not only a visual phenomenon, but also a logistical phenomenon. Without any structure, mesh and crochet bags lack any support. Throw in lipstick, wallet and keys and off you go? Not with this bag! Because through the holes, all utensils say goodbye faster than we’d like. In addition, mesh and crochet bags lose their shape when carrying heavier items. But if we then put less in the bag, it just blows around in the wind. An impractical trend that can be left behind in the summer of 2021.

From which corner did the trend to wear slip-in plastic monsters on the street come back in the first place? Hadn’t we left the fashion sin on our feet behind us in the last decade and only unpacked them again for gardening or the way to the garbage disposal? In 2021, the plastic creeps actually made it back into the fashion industry! Even big fashion houses like Balenciaga and Gucci have now released their very own version of the shoe. We ask ourselves: why? Just because the shoe is comfortable and practical? Far more fashionable sandals can take on this job in the New Year …

Sure, in between times we like to venture into new fashionable territory and try out trends. But there should be a limit somewhere. Because especially when big eye-catchers are of no real use, the question arises what the accessory is actually doing there. Too much can really be too much.
