Cannes Film Festival: Virginie Efira mistress of ceremonies for the 75th edition!

It’s official ! The 2022 Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 17 to 28, will have actress Virginie Efira as mistress of ceremony!

The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is gradually unveiling itself. This Thursday, March 17, a press conference was organized to learn more about the famous ceremony which will take place next May. During the latter, Thierry Frémaux, the general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, notably announced the name of the person who will present the opening and closing ceremonies of the event: Virginie Efira. The Belgian actress is a great regular at the Festival, she who has climbed the steps several times, such as in 2019 for the film Sybil, or in 2021 for Benedetta. “It’s official, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 75th Cannes Film Festival will be presented by Virginie Efira! A solar presence to celebrate cinema at Cannes 2022”, added the event’s Twitter account. Virginie Efira succeeds Doria Tillierwho had taken on this role last year alongside Spike Lee, who was the president of the jury.

The press conference was also the occasion to reveal that the film Top Gun Maverick, the sequel to the cult 1986 feature film for which Tom Cruise returns to service, will indeed be screened in preview at the Cannes Film Festival. The lucky ones will therefore be able to discover this new opus before its release in French cinemas on May 25. And that’s not all ! Indeed, Tom Cruise should honor the Croisette with his presence. A historic coming, since the American actor had not walked the Cannes red carpet since 1992 – 30 years – for the film Horizons Distant.
