A little girl named Ferdosa, aged 6, joined the Joliot-Curie school in Corbeil-Essonnes. Despite her disability, she has as normal an education as possible thanks to the efforts of her school.
Ferdosa is 6 years old and is not a child like the others. Originally from Somalia, this little girl suffers from the so-called children of the moon disease. This means that since birth she has developed a hypersensitivity to UV rays. So, she is forbidden to expose herself to the light of day. She risks burning her skin and eyes. It is a hereditary disease. While it is difficult for Ferdosa to have a normal daily life, she has to integrate a class from the Joliot-Curie school in Corbeille Essonnes according to our colleagues at Parisian.
And the little girl has been lighting up her classroom every day since her arrival in November. Despite his health problem which would, in theory, prevent him from going to school, Ferdosa found his place in this school to the great happiness of his parents. In order to welcome him in the best conditions, the school had to do two months of work. So, everything has been adapted so that the little girl risks nothing. Ferdosa is not the only little carrier of this disease who has had access to so-called “normal” schooling. In Bourges, the town hall and national education have not spared their efforts to educate a three-year-old girl called Soumaya.

“This poses no problem at school”
Indeed, Soumaya is in kindergarten class despite his rare illness. Anti-UV filters on the windows and LED lamps have been installed. In addition, the little girl must wear a suit and a mask to go outside. Didier Mujica, national education inspector, explained in particular: “Beyond the materials to be installed, we had to think about the paths which Soumaya will have to follow to go to the toilet or to the motor skills room. A school assistant is also there to dress Soumaya when she goes to recess. As everything was thought of in advance, This is no problem for the school.” Nearly 20,000 euros of investments were supported by Bourges town hall.
