Child pornography: cornered by his constituents, the mayor of Échenon resigns

Dince November, the inhabitants of the small village of Échenon, located in the Côte-d’Or department, had been asking for the resignation of their mayor, Dominique Lott. And for good reason, he is one of the 48 men arrested in mid-November across France during a vast operation to fight against child pornography. After a little over a month of battle, the mayor seems to have heard reason since he sent his letter of resignation to the prefect of Côte-d’Or, as revealed The public good.

Although he is presumed innocent until his trial, which will take place on April 26 – and this, even if he admitted “part of the charges” – the Échenonnais demanded his resignation, which the mayor refused to give so far. A petition asking for his departure had collected 589 signatures among the 800 inhabitants of the commune. Two of his constituents had also arrested Emmanuel Macron, on December 5, to request his dismissal. A letter which gave rise to a response from the chief of staff at the Élysée, who assured them “that it has been duly taken into account [leur] wish that a dismissal procedure be initiated against Dominique Lott, mayor of Échenon. I did not fail to relay your intervention to the prefect of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, prefect of the Côte-d’Or, ”wrote Brice Blondel at the time.

“Final resignation”

In the aftermath, the mayor of Échenon was received by the sub-prefect of Beaune, Myriel Porteous, who, it seems, succeeded in making Dominique Lott listen to reason, since there is no question of dismissal, but of “definitive resignation”. Also, new elections should soon be held in the commune.
