Civilization 7 officialized by Firaxis

While Civilization 6 was released in October 2016, it seems that Firaxis has finally decided to give a sign of life to the next installment of the license. Indeed, in its last press release, the studio confirmed that the next game Civilization was already under development. As the rumors suggested for a few months.

A formalization which comes in parallel with the announcement of the appointment of Heather Hazen as the new director of the studio. With nearly 22 years of gaming experience, Hazen, who joined the studio in 2020 as COO, has served as an executive producer for Epic Games on Fortnite in the past. She succeeds Steve Martin, who after 27 years of good and loyal service, made the decision to leave Firaxis Games.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the studio’s legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis has begun development on the next stage of the legendary franchise that is Civilization. »

Another notable departure from the studio, Jake Solomon. Former creative director of the XCOM franchise and Mavel’s Midnight Suns, he also announced that he is stepping down after nearly 23 years at Firaxis. Despite a desire to start a new chapter in his career, Solomon remains grateful for the opportunities the studio has provided over the years, as well as everyone who has supported his work.

For his part, Ed Beach, remains in his position as creative director of the Civilization franchise. Present in the development of titles Civil for more than 15 years, he had notably led the design of Civilization 6, the best-selling opus to date.
