KLima activists from the groups “Last Generation” and “Extinction Rebellion” have smeared several buildings in Berlin with an oil-like liquid. Among them were the FDP federal office in Berlin-Mitte and the headquarters of Coca Cola in Germany on Stralauer Allee on Thursday morning, the police said. The location of the pharmaceutical company Bayer in Müllerstrasse is said to have been smeared, as well as numerous other buildings, including banks. The actions are “in full swing,” said a police spokeswoman. New places would become known at short intervals.
Other organizations and companies are also based at Reinhardtstraße 14, where the FDP has its federal office, including the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Leopoldina.
The activists dumped the black paint from buckets onto the front doors and the entrance area of the FDP headquarters on Reinhardtstrasse, as reported by dpa reporters. They then stuck on several posters: “FDP: professionals in blocking, sticking to the combustion engine”, among other things. The artificial oil used can be washed off with water, it said.
Climate activist approached by drivers in Düsseldorf
About a month ago, members of the “Last Generation” had tipped an oil-like liquid onto the Basic Law monument near the Reichstag in Berlin, triggering criticism and outrage across the country. The monument could be cleaned quickly and was not damaged.
The group had announced further disruptive actions for these days like the one on Thursday morning. Most recently, the Fridays for Future movement had also distanced itself from the actions of the “last generation”. “The climate crisis needs solutions for society as a whole, and we can only find and fight for them together and not by pitting people against each other in everyday life,” said spokeswoman Annika Rittmann.
In Düsseldorf, meanwhile, a climate activist was apparently approached by a car driver during a road blockade. A video that the activists themselves published via Twitter shows the driver pushing the activist from behind and the latter hitting the road. After that he sits down in front of the car anyway.
A police spokesman in Dusseldorf said on Thursday that state security had started investigating the matter. The incident is said to have happened before police arrived on Wednesday. The person who was pushed and possibly injured has not yet reported anything.
