  • In the new episodes of “Cobra Kai”, villain John Kreese receives support from villain Terry Silver.
  • Silver first appeared in ‘The Karate Kid 3’ and was played by Thomas Ian Griffith, who reprises the role.
  • The showrunners of the Netflix series now unpack and explain that the stakes have never been higher and Terry has never been so dangerous!

Cobra Kai will be back soon, bringing with her some returnees from the Karate Kid franchise. Of course, the focus is on the villain Terry Silver from “Karate Kid 3”, whose return was already hinted at in the third season. In “Cobra Kai” season 4 he now appears on the scene.

The role reprises Thomas Ian Griffith, who has been out of the acting business since 2007. “You would never believe that [Thomas Ian Griffith] Hasn’t acted in a while because he’s the ultimate pro in every sense of the word,” reveals showrunner Jon Hurwitz in an interview with US magazine TVLine.

Hurwitz’ co-showrunner Josh Heald continues: “He’s seen the things that we do with the others [“Karate Kid”-]characters made in the past [wie Johnny, Daniel und Kreese] and how we made them three-dimensional and deeper”.

Our first discussion with [Thomas Ian Griffith] was no different, we went through our plans on how to approach the Terry Silver we saw in ‘The Karate Kid 3’ – a billionaire maniacally laughing terrorizing a teenager and an old man – and want to draw a conclusion, explain his past, delve deeper into the character to better understand him and bring him forward.

Josh Heald, showrunner of “Cobra Kai”

Since the first season, “Cobra Kai” has been praised for the fact that the rather two-dimensional characters from “The Karate Kid” are shown in the Netflix series in a much more reflective and realistic way. With Terry Silver it should probably continue like this.

“No one understands better what Cobra Kai does [das Dojo] capable than Terry Silver,” Heald explains. However, he does point out that Terry and John Kreese haven’t worked together since The Karate Kid 3, and that was when it ended in a big loss for both of them.

“There’s a lot of hurdles that need to be overcome, there’s a lot of history that needs to be worked through and a lot of trust that needs to be re-established to bring Cobra Kai back together,” Heald said of the collaboration Terry Silver and John Kreese.

For Terry Silver, who co-founded Cobra Kai with John Kreese, it will be exciting to discover what has become of Cobra Kai. “There are some really deep, exciting and complex scenes that unfold between Kreese and Silver in Season 4 as we explore what Cobra Kai is now,” explains Heald.

“The stakes have never been higher,” announces the showrunner fatefully, indicating that Cobra Kai’s two senseis, Silver and Kreese, are aware that they have to give everything they can.

With Terry Silver almost defeating Daniel in Karate Kid 3, we’re sure to have an even more dangerous villain in Cobra Kai Season 4. We can hardly wait!

“Cobra Kai” season 4 with all ten episodes will be released on December 31, 2021 on Netflix’s New Arrivals program. Fans can also be happy: “Cobra Kai” Season 5 has already been confirmed!
