The corona numbers are rising again. Several corona cases have now also been reported on the popular holiday island of Sylt.

As soon as it was possible to travel again, people flocked to Sylt. Although summer is over, many tourists are still vacationing on the island. Two corona outbreaks have now been reported in a restaurant and a hotel.

Corona outbreak in Sansibar on Sylt

According to NDR, several employees in the well-known “Sansibar” restaurant are said to have been infected with the corona virus. A total of six positive cases were reported over the weekend. As a result, 79 more employees now have to be tested for the virus, and nine direct contacts are in quarantine. According to current information, there should be no infections among the guests.

A second corona outbreak took place at a hotel. A total of eleven cases are said to have been reported among craftsmen working there. The infected people are said to be in isolation, and other contacts were sent to quarantine. Five of them are still on Sylt, four more have already traveled back to their places of residence in North Rhine-Westphalia and Slovenia and are there in quarantine, as a district spokeswoman told the NDR.

It remains to be seen whether further infections will follow. Rising corona numbers are currently being recorded across Germany. The Robert Koch Institute today reported 9,658 new cases, the incidence rose to 154.8. The intensive care units should also be more full again, so that doctors warn inside of an overload. For this reason, the RKI has once again called for compliance with hygiene and distance regulations, as well as reducing unnecessary contacts – this also applies to vaccinated people.
