As in the previous year, the corona pandemic will also have an impact on the most popular apps for iPhone and iPad in 2021.
The corona pandemic continues to have a firm grip on Germany. This is also made clear by the lists published by Apple of the most frequently downloaded apps of the year. The front runner among the most downloaded free apps for the iPhone is the “CovPass” application, which users can use to manage their vaccination certificates.
Directly in second place is the “Luca” app, which is intended to enable rapid contact follow-up during the pandemic. The “Corona warning app”, with which chains of infection should be interrupted as quickly as possible, landed in fourth place. Last year the app topped the list. At that time, “CovPass” and “Luca” were not yet available.
The top five are completed by the popular messenger “WhatsApp” (third place) and the social media platform “Instagram”. In the other places are – in this order – “YouTube”, “Vinted”, “Google Maps”, “PayPal” and “TikTok”.
As in the previous year, “Blitzer.de Pro” took first place among the paid iPhone apps, ahead of the “Threema” messenger. “Oh dear, I’m growing!” now secures third place. There are recipes for the Thermomix with “food with love” on the four and “Forest – stay focused” lands on the five. Behind it are “AutoSleep Schlaftracker”, “WeatherPro”, “GoodNotes 5”, “TouchRetouch” and “ADAC Camping / Stellplatz 2021”.
The iPad leaderboards
Productivity, entertainment, and communication are at the forefront of both the top-selling and most downloaded free iPad apps. The most loaded apps include Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Netflix, YouTube, Microsoft Word, Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft PowerPoint, Disney +, Google Chrome, and Spotify .
The best-selling were “GoodNotes 5”, “Procreate”, “Notability”, “Affinity Photo”, “Duet Display”, “AnkiMobile Flashcards”, “Atlas der Humananatomie 2021”, “Affinity Designer”, “Messaging for WhatsApp on iPad” and “MyScript Calculator”.
The most popular games
“Among Us!” Is again on the iPhone for free video games. in front. “Project Makeover”, “New QuizDuel”, “Subway Surfers” and “Water Sort Puzzle” follow. In the paid games there is no way around “Minecraft”, “Bloons TD 6”, “Plague Inc.”, “Monopoly” and “MontanaBlack Kylo’s Liberation”.

With the Apple Arcade game subscription service, “Sonic Racing” is ahead of “Mini Motorways”, “Cut the Rope Remastered”, “Burgerjagd” and “Skate City”. “Oceanhorn 2”, “Angry Birds Reloaded”, “Outlanders”, “NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition” and “Pac-Man Party Royale” complete the top ten.
