Curiosities on the Euro bus – trunk full of groschen coins exchanged

He wanted to protect cherry trees and therefore build a scarecrow – that was the plan of a man from Weyer in Upper Austria, who grabbed his uncle’s old coat and found 500 schillings in it. That is one of the curiosities that the Euro-Bus employees experienced in the 125 days in the federal state, which offered the chance to change money.

More than 59 million schillings were exchanged for euros on the euro bus in Upper Austria between 2002 and 2019. During this time, not only the man from Weyer, who found 500 schillings while building a scarecrow, was remembered. In 2011 a woman from Styria found the 80,000 schillings that she and her husband had been given for their wedding and had been missing for a long time. The money envelope was stuck in the garage between car tires and was accordingly dirty. Money found in the frame In the same year, a catfish woman decided to exchange the frame of a certificate from her deceased grandfather. As she opened it, she saw an envelope containing eight 5000 shilling banknotes. The money took them to the Euro bus. The more than 2,900 euros she received from the exchange was invested in a trip. The employees of the Austrian National Bank were also amazed when a man stopped in Marchtrenk in 2018 and his trunk was full of coins. The cargo turned out to be more than a million 10-groschen coins.
