Shade for the baby? This cover is dangerous!

To protect a sleeping baby from the sun, many mothers hang a cloth in front of the opening of the stroller. But be careful: this can be dangerous for the baby!

On hot days, babies need to be protected from too much sun – so what could be more natural than simply with a towel or a blanket inside stroller to provide shade? This practice is widespread, but can be dangerous in summer. Although one has the impression that the cloth protects against the sun and provides cool shade – the cover often has dramatic consequences for the child. In the video you can see how quickly the temperature can rise in the car – and how hot it gets in it!

The heat in the stroller can be fatal

Since babies are not yet able to regulate their temperature, the risk of overheating is extremely high. In the worst case, cardiac arrest can occur.

The pediatrician Torleiv Ole Rognum mentioned another risk to the TV2 broadcaster: “If a baby gets too hot, it may think that it is back in the womb – and breathing stops.” It is therefore extremely important that babies always have access to fresh air. Another disadvantage of the blackout of the cloth is that you cannot keep an eye on the baby all the time.
Rognum also advises speaking to other parents if they cover their strollers in this way. “We have to dare to speak up – in a friendly way – when we think someone is making such a mistake.”

Why parents know-it-all sometimes has to be

Of course, nobody likes to get explanations from complete strangers about what you are doing wrong with your baby. But in this case, still give yourself a jerk and point out carefully and respectfully in an emergency – it could literally be a matter of life and death for the baby in the stroller! If you think about how you would like to be made aware of the danger yourself in an emergency, you are sure to come up with the right words. Just a reminder: Check out the video for yourself how hot it is in the car under the cover.
