Depressive vagina – this is really a real disease. We reveal how you can tell if your vagina is depressed and how the symptoms can be treated.

What is a depressive vagina?

A depressive vagina (“vaginal atrophy”) can arise when a woman has long had no sex. Due to the lack of stimulation, the vagina is poorly supplied with blood. There is an oxygen deficiency, which causes the collagen fibers of the vaginal wall to regress. This in turn decreases the elasticity of the connective tissue.

What symptoms does a depressive vagina have?

A depressive vagina causes symptoms like:

  • dryness
  • itching
  • Burning while urinating
  • Decreased desire for sex
  • Decreased moisture

Many sufferers initially think of these symptoms as a fungal infection that causes almost the same symptoms . To distinguish the infection from the vaginal atrophy, the gynecologist should be consulted.

Why is my vagina getting depressed?

Even if it sounds strange at first – a vagina with depression is actually a protective function of the body. If no sex partner is present and the woman does not satisfy herself, as well as the desire generally decreases. What is rather negative for the vagina, but is good for the rest of the body – because this saves energy.

Who is affected?

Depression “below” can affect women at any age, but the most common is the onset of menopause. The reason: In this phase of life, the estrogen level decreases. The hormone performs various functions in the body, among other things, estrogen also ensures that the vaginal flora remains healthy. Estrogen deficiency therefore increases the risk of atrophy.

And what can I do about a depressive vagina?

The simplest treatment option for depressive vagina is actually sex. It is not even important if the lovemaking is performed with a partner or alone – the main thing, the vagina is stimulated. Since atrophy can cause pain during sex (for example vaginismus ), you should take a lot of time and start slowly. Lubricants can help against the dryness. By the way, the treatment is also the best prevention – who has regular sex or self-satisfied, lowers the risk of a depressive vagina.
