The Pipistrello, birth of an iconic lamp
The very first Pipistrello lamp was created in 1965. It is the work of Gaetana Aulenti, a figure in Italian design, who was responsible at the time for the layout of the showroom for the Italian brand Olivetti. This mythical model of the Art Nouveau style is inspired by the spread wings of a bat (pipistrello in Italian), hence its name. Gaetana Aulenti imagines the Pipistrello for the Italian house Martinelli Luce and it is an immediate success. It quickly becomes the icon of lighting and has known since its appearance many variations of colors and sizes, to always better adapt to our interiors.
