US President Joe Biden has accused his Ukrainian counterpart of not listening to warnings of an attack. In fact, Kyiv downplayed the threat of war to the last. To this day it is still unclear why.

The government in Kyiv has reacted harshly to Joe Biden’s accusation that Volodymyr Zelensky did not want to see the danger of a Russian invasion. Zelenski’s advisor Michailo Podoljak emphasized on Saturday, the Ukrainian President responded “to all the words and warnings of our partners”. It was completely clear to him that Russia wanted to attack, only the extent of the attack was open. Selensky’s spokesman, Serhi Nikiforov, also said that the president spoke regularly to Biden on the phone. His statement that Selenski did not want to hear warnings therefore needs to be explained.
