A 59-year-old mountaineer died on a tour on the Watzmann. The man fell about 200 meters on the east face of the mountain. His companion went down to the victim, but could no longer help the man.

On Wednesday, a mountain hiker fell around 200 meters to his death on the Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The man from the Traunstein district was on the way with two companions on the Berchtesgadener Weg when he fell from the bivouac box in the upper part of the east wall for an unexplained cause, the police said.

The three climbers were on their way through the Berchtesgaden Alps without ropes. It was said that they were up to the tour in terms of both ability and equipment. At the time of the crash, they were walking this area without a rope. After the man fell, an emergency call was sent immediately. One of the companions came down to him. For the 59-year-old, who fatally injured his head in the crash, any help came too late.

On Saturday, a 39-year-old woman fell about 200 meters on the Watzmann and died. According to the police, the accident occurred in the morning on the Watzmanngrat between Watzmann-Mittelspitze and Watzmann-Südspitze.
