Disaster prevented – Uttendorf: Tunnel fire is now being investigated


A fire in the tunnel of the Tauernmoos / Weißsee power plant construction site near Uttendorf in Pinzgau ended lightly for the construction workers on site. The trigger was the engine fire in a concrete mixer on Thursday evening. Now an expert should clarify the cause of the fire.

Thursday, 6:50 p.m .: In the tunnel of the Tauernmoos power plant construction site near Uttendorf in Pinzgau, flames suddenly burst from the engine compartment of a concrete mixer and spread rapidly. Four of the construction workers on site were able to flee, while the way outside was cut off for six colleagues. But they react exactly right and hide themselves in an escape capsule intended for these cases about a kilometer inside the mountain. Later they get outside via a cross tunnel.

The fire brigade units from Uttendorf, Stuhlfelden and Mittersill are meanwhile on a large scale. With a total of twelve vehicles and more than 120 men, the Floriani manage to bring the fire under control by 9 p.m. Conclusion: no injuries.

Leaked liquids could be bound, there was no environmental hazard. As far as the cause of the engine fire is concerned, the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office ordered the use of a court-sworn expert for clarification.
