Disney+ is preparing to broadcast advertising… in its ad-free subscription


In an email sent to its users, Disney+ made a somewhat surprising announcement: there will be advertising in its subscription without advertising. More specifically, the platform explains that promotional content and other sponsorships may appear during live broadcasts and special events.

This summer, Disney+ formalized the arrival of a formula with advertisements in its catalog, using the same operation as that offered by Netflix. By agreeing to watch a few advertising pages during their content, users will be able to pay less for their subscription, i.e. 5.99 euros per month. Also, subscribers to the standard or premium plan, respectively €8.99 per month and €11.99 per month, can continue to enjoy their series and films without advertising interruption. However, it seems that the latter will not be spared either.

In any case, this is what Disney+ seems to suggest in a recent email sent to its users, in order to keep them informed of the Update of the General Subscription Conditions. In particular, we learn that “ “Ad-free” subscriptions may include limited promotional content, information about Disney brands, sponsorship messages and others, including advertisements in live content or special events that contain traditional commercial breaks. »

So what does this mean? At first glance, Disney+ should not broadcast advertising before, during or after its usual content (films, series, documentaries). Indeed, this message seems to primarily concern live broadcasts and these “special events”, the content of which we do not really know. In other words, it is entirely likely that the platform is trying to clear itself here.

In fact, the latter speaks of “traditional commercial breaks”. It is therefore possible that Disney+ will broadcast an event on which the service has no control over advertising, like the sponsors of a sporting competition. Even with an ad-free subscription, it’s impossible to escape large signs displaying a brand’s logo.

In theory, no need to worry, therefore, on the supposed arrival of advertisements within the usual content. But it should also be noted that Disney+ evokesinformation on Disney brands » as promotional messages that may appear. So let’s hope that the latter don’t find their way to more expensive formulas.
