DOFUS: Overhaul of the Ocher Quest, Eternal Harvest and Archmonsters

To make the quest for the Ocher Dofus less frustrating, Ankama is changing theeternal harvest with the update 2.63. Rest assured, the A’srchimonsters will always be rare and random, while being adapted.

DOFUS: Overhaul of the Ocher Quest – The Eternal Harvest and its archmonsters

The Eternal Harvest on Dofus is a myth that should not be broken, and Ankama seems to have understood it. For patch 2.63, the goal will therefore be to keep a competitive quest with its own economy. Thus, it will always be difficult to finish all the steps. However, that doesn’t mean the team wants to leave the current issues on the servers. In addition, the GameDesigners, notably Nealin writing the official article, defined several points:

  • Be able to start the quest as soon as possible to be done as the player progresses
  • Encourage visitors to visit and revisit the World of Twelve
  • Promote exchanges, commerce and social aspects around the Archimonsters

What will change for the Ocher Dofus in 2.63

To correspond to these 3 areas of improvement, 3 measures will be implemented as of the next update, except the first. Indeed, it is already in place, concerning all servers. Since the end of 2021, archmonsters now appear faster and are better correlated to a server’s population, from Crocabulia (international server) to Ilyzaelle (most populated server). The development team specifies that it has the tools to correctly measure the influx, the exchanges of stones as well as the destruction of the Archmonsters.

On the quest side, a new Serie leading to own success will be added. This will allow you to learn more about Terrakourial, dragon of the Ocher Dofus. It will have as only prerequisite the traditional “But where are the Dofus”, without having to do the whole Eternal Harvest. Better still, it will even be easier for the latter, giving Archimonster Tokens as a reward, and the possibility of spending them. Wait, did we say tokens?

Archmonsters: Fight against Tokens

Yes, as a third measure, Ankama will offer tokens. They will be very different from the Archetons, available during the Temporis 5 and 6 servers. The goal will not be to be able to farm and obtain all the monsters, but to reduce frustration with… lootboxes?

But back to the Name to be determined – WIP (almost quote). There will be two ways to get them: with a drop on archmonsters and as rewards from the quest of Terrakourial (which is not repeatable). This drop will be impossible in arena and not impacted by prospecting or idols, with a “relatively low” rate (probably less than 5%). Moreover, it will evolve according to the stage to become higher and higher. Any character present in the fight will be able to obtain it.

You can spend your tokens on the purchase of Boxes, all at the same price. They will be exchangeable, which implies a presence in hotels for sale. Available in 14 variants, they will make it possible to launch a random fight against an archmonster of a stage defined by the type of the box. The monster will then be alone, will not bring any experience or loot (therefore no tokens) but still open to everyone.

Findings

While the solutions proposed here by Ankama will indeed improve the situation, they do little to correct the problems with the Ocher Dofus quest. the archmonster flight, very common on single-account servers, will always be present if not stronger, with a system encouraging group combat to earn tokens. Also, roughly summarizing on paper, the final principle of obtaining is hard approaching a casino to finish a quest. It is far from optimal for players simply wishing to complete a quest and who will have to farm to possibly obtain doubloons. In any case, the ideas of the GD team are interesting and worth taking, with close monitoring to be carried out.
