Dragon’s Dogma 3 is sure to see the light of day, it’s confirmed by Capcom


12 years after the release of a first opus that did not raise the crowds, the Dragon’s Dogma brand finally officially occupies a special place in the heart of Capcom.

After Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter, and following the commercial success of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom is considering making it its new strong brand. A third opus is thus clearly envisaged, or even more. In any case, this is what we can take from the latest financial report of the Japanese giant.

Dragon’s Dogma enters Capcom’s major licensing field

Nothing predisposed Dragon’s Dogma to join the pantheon of Capcom’s flagship licenses. The first opus, released in 2012, had only met with great success. The development of a second opus marked a form of stubbornness on the part of the Japanese studio, which visibly harbored a particular love for this franchise. Despite a delicate start, the gamble clearly paid off. Since its release on March 22, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold nearly 3 million copies.

Initially primarily a way to test the capabilities of the RE Engine on an open world for games like Monster Hunter Wilds and potentially Resident Evil 9, the license can now stand on its own dragon wings. Capcom now considers it a new “key brand”. We must therefore expect to resume the role of an Insurgent in a third opus or other games, in the more or less near future. It is obviously in old pots (12 years old in this case) that we make the best dragon soups.
