While royal fans around the world are happy about the first real sign of life from Princess Kate (42) after abdominal surgery, her sister-in-law, Duchess Meghan (42), and her brother-in-law, Prince Harry (39), on the other side of the world are also worried for a touching moment. They surprised the family of a Texas school shooting victim. “Many tears of joy” were shed at the meeting.

A great tragedy

19 students and two teachers were killed in a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas in 2022. One of the victims was Irma Garcia, whose family members have been in regular contact with the Sussexes since the tragedy. Garcia sacrificed her life trying to protect her students in a classroom at the school where she had taught for 23 years. The teacher’s husband, Joe Garcia, died of a heart attack on May 27, 2022, three days after the shooting.

Irma Garcia’s nephew, 22-year-old John Martinez, had a picture of his “tia” (Spanish: aunt), published by X and wrote that she died a hero and will be missed.

As reported by “Sky News”, among others, Harry and Meghan paid a surprise visit to the family of a slain teacher. Meghan had a birthday cake for Martinez’s mother, lit the candles and began singing “Happy Birthday.” While she invited the others to sing along, Prince Harry stood behind her.

Martinez posted the touching moment on “X”. “The cake was a surprise for my mother. Meghan and Harry are so caring and sweet that they did this… I love you, Sussex team,” the 22-year-old is quoted as saying. He emphasized how much it means to the family that the Sussexes “continue to love and support” them.

Meghan and Harry were moved to tears

In an interview with the magazine “Hello!” Martinez said the royal couple’s visit resulted in “many tears of joy and warm moments.” “They were the kindest, most humble people ever. It was like having family and friends over… we laughed a lot and shared intimate memories together,” he said.

Harry and Meghan have regular “contact with the Garcia family, but their visit to the family home felt really special given their busy lives,” Martinez added. He had previously shown on “X” how Meghan called the family immediately after the shooting in which an 18-year-old killed 21 people.
