Duchess Meghan was forced to pad her bra on a TV show
It’s been 16 years since Duchess Meghan – long before her marriage to Harry – appeared as a so-called “suitcase girl” on the TV show “Deal or No Deal” on the US broadcaster NBC. As number 24, between 2006 and 2007 it was her job to open the suitcase if the candidate asked for it. In the podcast, today’s Duchess of Sussex now sums up that she was grateful for the work because she was trying to break through as an actress and was able to “pay the bills” – “but not how I felt about it , which was not wise”.

Meghan and other women were then forced to pad their bras. In addition, there were “different stations where you could have your eyelashes put on, or the extensions. We even got vouchers for spray tanning spray every week because there was a very clear idea of how we should look. It was all about our beauty and not necessarily in the head,” remembers Harry’s wife.

She had a problem with only her looks being the focus. That would have had too little substance. At the time, Meghan felt “reduced to this particular archetype, the word chick” – which in turn is the main theme of her podcast episode with Paris Hilton. She was only valued for her beauty and not for her brains. Because of this objectification, Meghan ended up leaving the show.
She wanted more for her daughter. Her wish is “that our daughter strives for something higher. I want my Lili to be educated and smart and to be proud of those things.”
