Duchess Meghan and Catherine, Princess of Wales, apparently did not share the same humor in the past. In his memoirs, Prince Harry tells of a particularly unpleasant situation in 2018.

The fact that Catherine, Princess of Wales, 41, and Duchess Meghan, 41, were very different from the start and had various differences of opinion has not only been known since Prince Harry’s, 38, memoirs. But the British and the American not only understood each other wrongly when it came to serious matters, they also differed when it came to humor. In “Spare” Harry describes a scene that suggests just that.

Duchess Meghan’s joke was not well received by Catherine

Harry goes back to a moment more than four years ago, to “Trooping the Color” in 2018. Harry and Meghan were newly married and at that time were still visibly enjoying royal events. However, Meghan allowed herself a joke that didn’t go down well with the rest of the family, especially Catherine. Prince William’s wife, 40, asked her sister-in-law what she thought of the event, to which Meghan replied with just one word: “Colourful.” Harry writes that a “huge silence threatened to engulf us all”.

The quarrel of the prince’s wives

It’s not the only anecdote about Meghan and Kate that Harry tells in “Spare” that sheds light on the two women’s troubled relationship. A row over Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress, 7, made Meghan cry. Kate, in turn, felt offended by Meghan because she accused her of “maternal dementia due to her hormones” shortly before the wedding in May 2018. Of course, these are all little things that Harry reports, but overall they were probably the decisive factor in Kate and Meghan not becoming friends.
