Eid meal: our recipe ideas: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Ramadan ends this year in April with Eid ul-Fitr. Its exact date is not yet known and may vary from one country to another. Indeed, Islam bases its calendar on the moon. Depending on the calculation and observation methods, two dates can be retained. In any case, this holiday will fall on Tuesday April 9 or Wednesday April 10. For millions of Muslims, this will be the end of a month of fasting from sunrise to sunset. It is therefore both an opportunity to get together with family and to have fun. Although there are no dishes specially dedicated to this celebration, it is still customary to prepare traditional recipes from the Maghreb or the Middle East depending on the family.

Family dishes for Eid

Unlike Eid al-Adha (or Eid el-Kebir), lamb is not especially served at the end of Ramadan. However, it remains a traditional dish in many countries with Muslim cultures. It’s even better this year that spring is the best season to taste it. This meat also goes very well with sweet flavors and dried fruits very often used to accompany dishes in the Maghreb and the Middle East. Furthermore, you can find pieces large enough, like the shoulder, to feed the whole family. It can also serve as a basis for the most popular recipes of this gastronomy: tagines and couscous. But you could also use chicken, merguez, or beef in the form of meatballs.

The Lebanese buffet option

If you are a little less numerous or do not have the possibility of preparing such dishes, opt for chorba, pastilla or even shakchouka, which require less work.

Large family dishes are very practical for celebrating Eid el-Fitr, but you can also offer a myriad of appetizers. This is particularly the tradition of Lebanese mezze. We will then find the famous koftas and falafels, hummus, stuffed vine leaves, tabbouleh. And of course, we must not forget the many famous oriental pastries. Gazelle horns, briouates and baklavas are undoubtedly the best known and will be perfect to end the meal.
