During the event, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, appeared publicly for the first time with Valérie Hayer, his party’s European candidate. As revealed Politico, the next day, the X account (formerly Twitter) of the Élysée broadcast the declarations of the Head of State during a speech to the press. “There are a lot of fears and worries in the moment we live in and these angers always benefit the most simplistic responses. […]. We have the right candidate, and above all, the right ideas”, did he declare. The clip was removed quickly, but not soon enough to avoid controversy.
Members of the opposition, including Manuel Bompard, have in fact strongly criticized the approach of the President of the Republic. As reported Le Figarothis Thursday, April 18, the coordinator of the operational team of La France insoumise contacted the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP). “The use of the resources of the Élysée to campaign for the list supported by the President of the Republic is contrary to electoral financing rules”reacted the 38-year-old politician on his X account. For its part, Emmanuel Macron’s political party maintains that the president made neither a speech nor a solemn declaration to promote Valérie Hayer’s campaign.
