She is one of the most decorated drivers of all time: Annemiek van Vleuten. Now, at the age of 40, she resigned. On Sunday her career ended with the “Simac Ladies Tour”, where she celebrated one last time on the final stage.

Van Vleuten said goodbye to her team, the Spanish Movistar team, with personally signed world champion shirts for each member. She was able to celebrate winning the rainbow jersey four times, twice in the time trial and twice in the road race. She last won the title with a broken elbow in Australia in 2022.

In addition to her victories at major events, the Dutchwoman, who started her career rather late at the age of 25, was particularly known as a tour specialist. In 2022, she won the Tour de France the first time it was held and she also has the Giro (4 wins) and the Vuelta (1 win) in her palmarès. Of the last few years, the duels with her compatriot Demi Vollering are particularly remembered.
