The return traffic caused a long traffic jam in front of the Gotthard tunnel at the end of the ascension weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, vehicles were backed up in front of the south portal for eight kilometers.
On the Gotthard, drivers needed around an hour and twenty minutes longer than usual for the section of motorway between Faido and Airolo in Ticino, as the Swiss Touring Club (TCS) announced on Twitter.
In 2022, the tin snake grew to 15 kilometers in length in the late afternoon of Sunday after the driveway.
