EU: No more homelessness by 2030

“It is absurd that hundreds of thousands of people have no place to live on the richest continent in the world,” said the EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, in Lisbon on Monday. In a declaration, the 27 member states committed themselves to concrete steps to achieve the goal.

According to the EU Commission, around 700,000 people currently sleep on the streets every night in Europe – 70 percent more than ten years ago. According to an estimate by the Federal Homeless Aid Association, around 41,000 people in Germany had no accommodation in 2018. There are no official statistics. From next year on, however, a “homeless report” will be published every two years.
