Children’s sports do not prohibit emergency braking

The so-called “emergency brake” brings many restrictions into daily life. About curfew and distance learning obligation. An important exception to the prohibitions can be found in the area of sports, which mainly affects children up to 14 years of age.

The nationwide “emergency brake” is a done deal with the approval of the Bundestag and Bundesrat. The tightened Infection Protection Act will come into force on Friday, expanding the measures to contain the corona pandemic. These include curfews, for example. Since many recreational facilities have to close if the incidence value exceeds 100, the question arises as to what is still allowed with the many bans.

An important exception can be found in the sports facilities. Because children up to the age of 14 are still allowed to do sports outside in a group with up to five other children without contact. This exception is also supported by science. Because aerosol researchers had long given the all-clear for non-contact outdoor sports. Tennis, jogging or rowing are not a problem. According to the Society for Aerosol Research (GAeF), there is almost no risk of corona infections here. The GAeF recently sent an open letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel, demanding more freedom of movement outdoors, which sports associations took as an opportunity to demand a resumption of amateur football.

Even adults are not banned from sport despite the “emergency brake”, but with certain conditions. Either alone, in pairs or just with members of your own household, they say. If you like jogging or walking in the evening, you can continue to do so until midnight, but only on your own.
