Netflix that adapts Exploding Kittens and bring back Love Death + Robotsalways more than teasing for Kenobi and Ahsokaan ultra-ambitious production for the Metropolis Apple TV+ version… What are the SVoD news of the last few days?

During this long Easter weekend, the streaming platforms were not on break. So here is a compilation of announcements, rumors and trailers from the last few days, starting with the market leader: Netlfix.

The Los Gatos service has announced the start of a confusing project. If you’re a fan of board games, you may be familiar with Exploding Kittens, a much softer and shimmering re-reading (you’ve got it) of Russian roulette with cards, cats and dynamite. Netflix has signed an agreement with the game publisher to transpose it into a mobile version and offer it via its gaming section in May. Until then, nothing to whip a cat will you tell us, but the story does not end there.

A series has also been commissioned by the SVoD giant, with actress Lucy Liu and the star of Lucifer, Tom Ellis. The narrative will apparently center on “the eternal conflict between heaven and hell“, while God and the Devil come down to earth in the form of house tomcats. In the production of this funny project scheduled for 2023, we find two big names in American comedy, Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation, Upload) and Mike Judge (Idiocracy, Silicon Valley), who had already co-created the anime king of the hill. We therefore expect a lot of caustic humor, dogs not making cats (promised it was the last), but we especially hope that this umpteenth and for the less absurd adaptation will be successful.

Also at Netflix, we had confirmation this weekend of two highly anticipated renewals, those of Big Mouth and its spin-off HumanResources for a seventh and second season, respectively. In the meantime, season 6 of Nick Kroll’s original series should land this year.

The prequels of Star Wars Featured on Disney+

Now let’s go to Disney +, which never stops teasing its next releases from the Star Wars universe. No news from mandalorian this time, but big promises for the highly anticipated Kenobi. According to actor Rupert Friend, who will play the Grand Inquisitor, one of the main antagonists of the series, this one will be garnished with “amazing cameos” from the universe created by George Lucas. We already know that Hayden Christensen will put on the armor of Darth Vader again, but the rest is quite mysterious. The bets are therefore on a return of Darth Maul, Mace Windu, Who -Gon Jinn, or… Jar-Jar Binks?

The prequels of Star Wars should also be featured in another future Disney + series, dedicated to Ahsoka Tano, character created for the anime Clone Wars but seen much more recently in The Mandalorian as actress Rosario Dawson. The winning duo of this last series, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, will be back writing for the occasion, but it is actress-director Bryce Dallas Howard, also at work on The Mandalorianwhich gave a clue as to the direction that Ahsoka. According to her, fans of Clone Wars will be “greatly rewarded” by this project which will probably not be released before the beginning of next year.

Off to Australia for the Metropolis from Apple TV+

Another great sci-fi classic, another streaming service. We told you about it a few weeks ago, a series based on the universe of Metropolis by Fritz Lang is in preparation on Apple TV+, with the creator of mr robot Sam Esmail at the controls. According to variety, the filming of this project should be done in Australia and take advantage of the latest technologies at the forefront of special effects, installed on site especially for the occasion. We are talking in particular about the device that made the success of The Mandalorian, again him, who had used a gigantic LED panel 6 meters high and 22 meters long projecting photorealistic decorations for an absolutely stunning image. As always, Apple TV+ therefore intends to go all out to offer a show that lives up to its reputation.

The apple-based platform recently became the first SVoD service to receive the Best Picture Oscar with CodaAmerican remake of The Aries Family. A rare thing in the industry, it will soon be possible to see the film in cinemas, in addition to its broadcast on Apple TV+. On the weekend of April 23-24, you can go to one of the 120 cinemas participating in the scheme. This is an exceptional but not unprecedented case – Netflix took advantage of this not long ago for its festival – and which can be applied in two formulas depending on The French Movie : no more than 30 rooms and no time limit, or no more than 500 rooms for two days only, option chosen by Apple.

Love Death + Robots back May 20 on Netflix

Let’s finish with the two trailers of the week. First back to Netflix, which has unveiled a surprise teaser and release date for the anthology’s third season. Love Death + Robots, which will land on May 20. Not many new images, but a rather tasty diversion from the usual promotional campaigns featuring sequences of The Crown and The Ladies Game.

On Canal+, we will be able to see the series from April 25 Why not Evans?, adapted from a novel by Agatha Christie, starring Hugh Laurie, Will Poulter and Emma Thompson. An obviously intriguing story of which here are the first images.
