Fabien Roussel, Communist Party candidate, won 2.3% of the vote in the first round of the 2022 presidential election.
Fabien Roussel will not have been able to translate his media popularity at the polls. Unable to resist the useful vote in favor of Jean-Luc Mélenchon on the left, the Communist Party candidate gathered 2.3% of the votes cast in the first round. Shortly after 8 p.m., he thanked his constituents “who brought their strength for a France of Happy Days”: “You have sown a lot of seeds, they will be useful for the future. Each of the voices is a point of support for winning social justice and equality. The challenge today is to rebuild a strong, new, popular left, capable of winning tomorrow.

Fabien Roussel made Emmanuel Macron the first responsible for the presence of the far right in the second round. “After a five-year term in which our people have seen their purchasing power, their working conditions, their public services, their industrial, energy and health sovereignty deteriorate, they have refused the debate, and for any program have not presented measures of aggravated social damage”, declared the communist, urging the president-candidate to hear the rejection of his program which, according to him, the results of the first round express, by renouncing “his senseless reforms”.

Fabien Roussel nevertheless called for a vote for Emmanuel Macron – without mentioning him by name – in the second round in order to block the far right: “Next Sunday, I will choose responsibility. Faithful to the whole history of my political family, I would never allow a racist and xenophobic project to be implemented at the head of the state. I would never bring myself to allow Madame Le Pen to use our institutions in the service of her enterprise of hatred and division. This is why I call for putting the extreme right in check by using the only bulletin at our disposal. I make this choice and I know that it is more and more difficult to say it”.
