The Footbar start-up has launched a sensor to allow players (professional or amateur) to have complete statistics after each match.

Knowing all his statistics like a runner who makes his regular outings in order to know his evolution (especially on Strava), it is possible for the “footballers” of Sunday. The start-up launched this sensor in May 2021 to collect all possible data during its match. A product that we recently tested.

Simple to use, Footbar works with a sensor, called Meteor, which is installed between the knee and the calf. The data is then sent to an application (Footbar) and the user can consult it. Thus, his speed, his dribbling, his defense, his physique, his speed or the speed of his strike… everything is analyzed. A treat for data fans or those who dream of having their Fifa card (for real!).

The success was rapid for this application on sale at Decathlon (99 euros). But the founders do not intend to stop there. “After the commercial success of the sensor over the Christmas period, in particular with a shortage of stock at Decathlon, we will see thousands of users surge on our platform at the beginning of 2022, indicated Jacques d’Arrigo, co-founder of Footbar and former “international” director of the Girondins de Bordeaux. The challenge will then be to validate the virality of our solution, in order to become, within two years, thanks to one million users, a key player in the practice of football.

The young generation fond of stats

It must be said that since the launch, the positive feedback has been numerous. And the audience initially targeted is not the one expected by the creators who were pleasantly surprised. “We initially designed the product for an adult audience, but the launch to the general public made us realize how much the 13-18 year old generation was waiting for a product like this,” admits Jacques d’Arrigo. . Where we thought that an active user would perform an average of two sessions per week with the sensor, the best players actually perform two sessions per day!”

The other main objective of Footbar, which has created partnerships with professional clubs such as Toulouse or Red Star (there is also a discussion with the Dutch Football Federation), is also to encourage young people to excel on the pitch. and not behind their screen, as the current era wants (perhaps a little too much). “Digital is present everywhere today, except in the practice of football which has remained identical to that of the last century, underlines the co-founder. To avoid seeing the new generation, those who have not known football without the stats, abandon physical practice in favor of video games, we have decided to use the best of new technologies to create a new gaming experience, halfway between old-fashioned sport and e-sport.”
