The web agency Kernix studied the websites of 800,000 French companies to see what solutions these sites use. She organized the results by structure size: in five of the four categories, WordPress is the CMS that comes out on top. In micro-enterprise (57.5%, small enterprise (58.2%), medium enterprise (58.8%), ETI enterprise (47.5%). In large groups, WordPress comes in second position (27% ), behind another free software, Drupal (32.2%).
WordPress for every second site
Kernix points out in its Web observatory that:
“1. One in two sites is based on WordPress. This free and open source content management platform (CMS) is the big winner of this study. It is used by both small independents and CAC40 groups.
2. Two out of three sites use open source technologies. The PHP programming language is used by almost 3 out of 4 sites.”
The study notes that “the smaller the companies, the more they turn to SaaS solutions,” while “the larger their size, the more companies turn to scalable solutions. These solutions allow them to involve different profiles and provide them with complete autonomy (e.g. Drupal, Joomla, Typo3).”
We notice that the more the size of the company grows, the more Drupal has a significant share of sites. From 2.6% of micro-enterprise sites (in 5th position of employed CMS), the CMS increases to 5.3% of small business websites (3rd position), 11.4% of those of medium-sized businesses (2nd position ), 21.2% of those of ETI and 32.2% of large companies (the only category, as said above, where Drupal is in the lead).
Kernix, which indicates that it has around forty employees, “has been producing tools and websites in a multitude of sectors for more than 20 years. Specializing in open source technologies, Kernix uses Symfony, WordPress, Drupal, Prestashop and Magento technologies to support its clients in the implementation of their digital strategy (communication, e-business, e-commerce, business tools).” The company announces a turnover of 4.2 million euros on its site.
