Art, clothing and furniture from Elton John’s former residence in Atlanta will go under the hammer at an auction.

He is certainly making his fans very happy: Under the title “The Collection of Sir Elton John: Goodbye Peachtree Road,” music legend Elton John (76) is auctioning off several items from his former home in Atlanta. As the auction house Christie’s has announced, the eight-part auction series will take place in New York and will feature art and objects from the singer’s home.

“Not only has John built one of the largest private collections of photographs in the world, his extensive collections range from 19th-century sculptures and crucifixes to contemporary glass art and Versace silk shirts,” the announcement said. Among the art objects are a painting that Damien Hirst (58) made especially for him and a horse sculpture by Deborah Butterfield (74). Estimated price for Hirst’s work according to Christie’s: 350,000 to 450,000 US dollars (around 319,000 to 410,000 euros). According to the New York Times The entire collection could bring in around ten million dollars (around nine million euros).

Inspiration for his music

Elton John’s living room piano, a costume by British costume designer Sandy Powell (63) for his 47th birthday and many other highlights from the singer’s wardrobe such as sunglasses and platform boots are also expected to go under the hammer. “It may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s definitely my taste,” explains the musician about the personal collection. His residence was like a cave full of things “that I loved, memorabilia from all over the world, things that inspired me every day.” In addition to his 27th studio album, “Peachtree Road”, the music for the Broadway plays “Billy Elliot” and “Aida” was also created in his home in Atlanta.

According to Christie’s, the 76-year-old expanded his property over three decades, ultimately combining five apartments to have enough space for his art, furniture and clothing. Now that the singer is no longer touring, he wants to say goodbye to the house. “There is a piece of Elton’s soul in every single piece,” says husband David Furnish (61) in an interview with the auction house. “Buyers of these pieces will walk away with something that has undoubtedly inspired Elton on his artistic journey.”

In an Instagram clip Christie’s gives insights into the collection and announces that the objects will be on display in a public exhibition from February 9th to 21st. The opening evening of the auction will take place on February 21st and the auctions are scheduled to run until February 28th.
