AMD’s latest graphics technologies are gradually being deployed on consoles: Immortals of Aveum is a pioneer.

It is in two stages that Ascendant Studios will propel its latest production – the not so exciting Immortals of Aveum – towards the most modern display technologies… on console.

Through two successive patches, it is indeed a question of integrating HDR, FSR 3 and support for VRR. So many barbaric terms that we will detail.

HDR available since yesterday

Released in August 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Immortals of Aveum did not convince all the players as highlighted by the – debatable it is true – return Metacritic.

With time – and updates – the action game seems to be gaining in popularity… It must also be recognized that its recent integration into PlayStation Plus clearly works in its favor. In fact, it’s not surprising to see Ascendant Studios continuing to produce content and, more specifically, to focus on the technical side of things.

Deployed just yesterday, patch 1.0.6.3 is for example there to integrate HDR into the console versions of the game. Provided that you have a compatible television, HDR (for High Dynamic Range) allows a luminance higher than the 100 nit SDR limit.

FSR 3 and VRR coming very soon

This patch 1.0.6.3 is, however, only a step and “serious things” are expected with the following update, 1.0.6.4, the exact release date of which is still awaiting…” in just a few weeks » if we are to believe the studio press release.

As Eurogamer explains to us, this patch 1.0.6.4 should allow support for FSR 3, the most advanced oversampling technique developed by AMD. In the same way as DLSS 3, FSR 3 allows the implementation of frame generation : artificial intelligence no longer simply scales the image, it calculates – all by itself – every second frame.

In the case of the console version ofImmortals of Aveumthis support for FSR 3 comes with a “bonus” that the PC version lacks: VRR for Variable Refresh Rate or variable refresh rate. The idea here is to support 120 Hz, while ensuring the player’s visual comfort, even when there are frequency fluctuations.
