In the world of the sport, the role and importance of the coach are sometimes difficult to define. Each discipline has its own specificities and in Valorant, the referees have decided to keep it simple: coaches are not allowed to communicate during matches except during: technical breaks (problems) and the tactical breaks (requested by the teams). Some think it’s too little, others think it’s enough. Everyone will have their own opinion and the purpose of this article is not to define who is right. Basically, we will remember that the rule is the rule.
The concern is that many teams do not scrupulously respect the instructions. There are obviously clear abuses that deserve to be punished, such as giving information (“someone destroyed Cypher’s trap behind you”), instructions (“rush A, rush B…”) or even advice (“you should save your weapon”). But in other cases, the referees can be a bit too harsh. If we talk a bit about CS:GO, coaches must now be careful not to shout too much, encourage too much or raise too many emotions during the games. The limits have therefore become very fine and they are not easy to draw. Several European Valorant teams have in any case been singled out by the commission and penalties have fallen.
Two weights, two measures ?
That the fans of G2 Esports are reassured, the team received a very light penalty. G2 only received a “official warning” from Riot Games. So there is not really a sporting impact on the rest of his season and the Samurai have not lost points in the VCT league which will start very soon. This is the most important and the team is doing quite well. However, it will be necessary to be vigilant, the official warnings are kept on file by Riot Games and in the event of a recurrence, the sanctions will be increasing. The commission remained lenient, because the communication in question was equated to excessive celebration on the part of the coach.There would not have been a competitive advantage gained.
What bothers part of the community is that Movistar Riders violated the same rule (7.2.11) but received a much heavier penalty! The team that will participate in the Spanish VRL will lose 3 points, which complicates its chances of finishing first and qualifying for the next VCT. Conspiracy theorists are crying foul when they blame the discrepancy on G2 being a scene heavyweight. But in reality, Riot Games gave a little more context… If for the coach of G2, we speak of an excessive celebration, for the coach of Movistar we speak written instructions given to players in the middle of the game. A more severe sanction therefore seems totally justified.
