Game News The Legend of Zelda and Nintendo 64 emulation regain strength on Nintendo Switch
By announcing the arrival of Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive games through its Premium formula, the Kyoto giant knew that it was going to create enthusiasm and impatience. Being able to take advantage of the mythical titles of the Big-N console, in addition to those of the 16-bit SEGA, was tempting! However, when the famous formula came out, many players were disillusioned when they discovered the performance of the Nintendo 64 emulation.
It is an understatement to say that the comparison of the original version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with that on Switch was not good advertising for the Premium formula of the Nintendo service. Players who tried this version quickly noticed graphical glitches, blurry textures and even audio lags. Needless to say, for an iconic game like Ocarina of Time, discontent didn’t last long. Certain sequences, such as the Water Temple, did not have the same flavor at all on Nintendo Switch, the fault of reflections and an absent ambient fog.
A LINK FINALLY AT THE HEIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL?
It looks like things have gotten better with the latest update, as reported by @zfg111’s tweet on the famous social network.
The update to the NSO N64 App cleaned up the infamous dark link water room (though still not perfect)
Also slightly reduced input lag (still bad, but better)
Fog issues still present. pic.twitter.com/F7puLDyf9c

Thus, even if the problems related to the fog are still visible, the rendering is more pleasant. Fans will point out that the Wii offered a perfect emulation of this same game, but it’s still reassuring to see that Nintendo is trying to improve the stability of its program.
According to the opinions of specialists, the update had an impact on the NSO N64 emulator which is based on that of the Wii U. What would have happened is that Nintendo removed functions of the original emulator to run more games, and it created visual artifacts, sound bugs and the like on some titles. It’s not yet optimal, but it will perhaps push some refractory people to be tempted by the proposal. This is all the more true as the excellent Banjo-Kazooie has just joined the catalog of available games and will be joined next month by the very atmospheric and exciting The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
Time is running out for you to prevent the apocalypse in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, which will join the Nintendo 64 catalog of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service in February! pic.twitter.com/DLP1rdjtGH
