Genshin Impact: New basic costumes for Jean, Mona, Amber and Rosalia reignite censorship issue

Genshin Impact has been pretty stingy on new costumes since its release, whereas this kind of detail is very present in other gacha. Version 2.4 of the game brings two more, for the characters of Ningguang and Kequing, and miHoYo today gives us the surprise to reveal some new for Jean, Mona, Amber and Rosalia. But this surprise tastes quite bitter for part of the community.

Censorship on female characters?

The studio therefore presents us with new basic costumes for these characters. The changes are therefore not very significant at first glance, but we quickly notice the reason for these costumes.

To cope with the Chinese rules and the comments received, miHoYo has decided to replace the basic costumes of these heroines with more “sober” ones, understand by this that they reveal less skin and shapes. These costumes will replace the existing models on the Chinese game server (with 1200 first-gems as compensation), but they will be optional with us.. However, it is not known whether they will be chargeable or not.

While some fans are delighted to see the arrival of new costumes (which are still quite pretty), others are worried about the censorship suffered by the game. And if that does not change anything for players in the West (we have simply entitled to more costumes), it is not impossible that this will impact the design of future characters. It remains to be seen if miHoYo will not change its ways and simply provide a censored version for China, as is the case here, or if the studio will put all the servers on the same page for future characters.

Genshin Impact is available on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS and Android. Do not hesitate to consult our many guides on the game to find out more.
