Visionary? In 2022, George Orwell has never been so relevant. Heirs to old totalitarian empires, China like the Russia of 2022 apply almost to the letter the lessons of the Oceania of 1984 : cult of the leader, suppression of individual freedoms, surveillance of populations, manipulation of language and aggressiveness towards the outside. Orwellian universes where Big Brother is called Xi Jinping or Vladimir Poutine, where the enemy is the West, where individual resistance is more and more perilous.
