Giving up gynecological care? A common but not trivial act

60% of women have already given up or postponed a gynecological consultation. However, regular monitoring is important.

The figures are shocking and were published today: according to a survey carried out by Ifop for the Qare teleconsultation platform, 60% of women have already given up going to the gynecologist. Too much mental load, lack of time, money but also lack of available professionals: the reasons for this figure are numerous, while the health authorities recommend an annual appointment with the gynecologist or midwife.
Young women give up the most, tied with those who have children. 70% of 25-34 year olds, like mothers, declare that they have already given up on a consultation. Furthermore, 31% of women between the ages of 18 and 24 say they have never seen a gynecological health professional. Giving up a consultation is, however, giving up crucial follow-up in the detection and management of certain common ailments.

Why give up going to the gynecologist?

For the youngest, it’s more a story of discomfort, and 33% say they are uncomfortable with their bodies. This discomfort is also found in people who have not consulted for a while, and in inactive women. A question of self-perception that would prevent you from feeling comfortable in front of an intimate doctor?
Other issues for women over 35: time, which is lacking. Arbitration is then made in favor of the other members of the family to the detriment of their health. Finally, some regions are deserts medical. Women also tend to seek advice from their GPs or pharmacists for common ailments. However, it is important to be able to access more advanced consultations, in order to detect common conditions which are likely to degenerate if they are not treated at such a high level.
