God of War: Cory Barlog reveals how the idea for the PC port came about, while the game is a hit on Steam

A little less than four years after its arrival on PS4, god of war made its way onto the PC, with one of the most successful ports, which is part of the strategy of sony to bring ever more exclusives elsewhere than on these consoles. Cory Barlog, the director of this opus, has precisely spoken of the birth of this port with Game Informer, and we learn that it is thanks to the will of PlayStation Studios that Sony has changed its strategy.

A successful first weekend

Well, at least that’s what we assume to be the simplified version that Barlog tells us here. When asked if it was the developers who pushed Sony to take an interest in the PC market, he replied:

I think it was a collective effort of the studios, who said it was a good idea. And that we should look into that. Eventually, I think this idea reached a tipping point. When we sent so many suggestions about this to the suggestion boxes, they were like, “I’m tired of always hearing this. Very well we will do it”. It’s a process. We’re still figuring out, as a company and as individual studios, how to do that and what our strategy is going to be. »

The idea of having PC ports of PlayStation exclusives would therefore come from PlayStation Studios themselves, which would have pushed Sony to accept (we imagine that the financial interest was all the same the real driving force for Sony to accept, let’s not be not fooled).

And we have to believe that all this succeeds rather well at Sony, since god of war was a hit on Steam for its first weekend. The game recorded a peak of unique players at 73,529 people connected at the same time on the game. Obviously, not enough to shake the Steam charts, but the performance is remarkable for a single player game released for several years on d other platforms.

Now, that doesn’t mean that God of War Ragnarok will be entitled to a PC release, even if it is more than probable. Cory Barlog states that he has no idea about this eventuality, and specifies that everything is decided according to each project.
